Ros Roca continues to consolidate its worldwide leadership with the acquisition of a share in the Brazilian firm Usimeca
The Brazilian company is the leading Latin American business in the waste collection and transport equipment sector

Tàrrega, 17 October, 2007. Ros Roca has reached a share agreement with Usimeca, the Brazilian firm which leads the Latin American market for the waste collection equipment manufacturing sector. This purchase will allow the Leridian multinational to fully enter not only the South American market, where it currently exports equipment, but both Central and North American markets where Usimeca already has a firm foothold.

Usimeca is the leading company in Latin America in the waste collection and transport equipment sector, representing 65% of the market in Brasil and 30% in the rest of Latin America.

This share agreement joins Ros Roca’s 2006 purchase of the firm Denis Eagle in England, making the company the world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of equipment dedicated to the environment. Ros Roca also numbers industrial installations in Germany (Shörling), France (Eurovoirie) and Portugal (Resitul) among its holdings.

The deal reached by the two parties includes a confidentiality agreement concerning the financial details of the operation.

Usimeca

Usimeca, a family business, is the leader in the Latin American sector for waste collection and transport equipment, offering a wide variety of products with cutting-edge technology, the result of their investment in research, product development, production resources and highly qualified personnel.

Strategically located in the Rio-Sao Paulo thoroughfare, in Nova Iguacu (Río de Janeiro) the company has a production capacity of over 1,000 units per year.

Since its foundation in the year 1920, the firm’s production has experienced many changes. In the beginning, the company specialized in the manufacture of mechanical lathes. In the forties, Usimeca got involved in the elevator market and, in the fifties, began producing equipment for the petroleum industry. In search of new markets, a foray was made into the manufacture of other earthwork and poultry equipment until in 1965, anticipating the need for waste collection units for the Brazilian market, Usimeca began manufacturing its first units, taking the initial steps needed to assume a leadership position which the firm continues to maintain today.

Usimeca works in the interior Brazilian market – both public and private firms as well as institucional clients – and the international market, especially in other Latin American countries, as well as in Africa and the Middle East.

Ros Roca’s Worldwide Growth

The Leridian multinational firm, ROS ROCA, focuses on the manufacture of equipment and the design and development of engineering systems and processes applied to the environment, based on their philosophy of respect for our surroundings and the maximal development of environmental engineering in order to improve people’s quality of life.

Founded in 1953, Ros Roca has become one of the sector’s leading firms in Europe, exporting to 70 countries with a team of 1,500 who work at installations of over 140,000 m², located in four EU countries: Germany, (Shörling), France (Eurovoirie), England (Dennis Eagle) and Portugal (Resitul).

Ros Roca’s business plan is based on three main areas that encompass the complete waste collection and treatment cycle. The first involves the manufacture of street clearing and waste collection equipment (truck-mounted compacting waste collectors, street-cleaning machinery and sewer cleaning equipment).

In addition, Ros Roca Pneuematic Collection Systems has developed a system using their own technology for the pneumatic collection of waste which has been implemented in projects involving, for example, entire city neighbourhoods such as Portugalete, Barcelona or Córdoba; or such notable projects as the expansion of the El Prat airport in Barcelona, or the Fórum 2004 installations.

In recent years, ROS ROCA has also developed, in its own research, innovation and development departments, modern triage and treatement systems for all types of waste. ROS ROCA is currently designing various projects for and building waste transference, selection and compost plants throughout Spain and Europe, as well as biomethanization and porcine waste treatment plants where, through an environmentally friendly process, gases are obtained for different uses. Among the most recent activities carried out by the plant division, the two following projects stand out.  Ros Roca has been awarded the contracts for the construction and start-up of a mechanical-biological treatment facility in Brittany, France with a 5.6 million euro cost, as well as a methanization plant for the Vienna town hall with a price of 13.5 million euros. Another standout was the construction of two biomethanization plants in Sweden and Estonia last year. Finally, and most recently, Ros Roca has been awarded a contract for the expansion of a waste incineration plant in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
